GSMA stated on May 17, 2021,Governments cannot use 6GHz as authorized spectrum,Will endanger the development prospects of 5G worldwide。
6GHz is the mid-frequency band in the spectrum,It can take into account the advantages of low frequency coverage and high frequency capacity advantages,It is crucial to fully release 5G high-speed and other capabilities。
However,There are already differences in the issue of how to use the 6GHz spectrum in various regions:
- China has made suggestions on WRC-19 for 6GHz for 5G;
- Europe plans to adopt an equalization strategy in the 6GHz band,700MHz in the first half is for 5G,500MHz in the second half for Wi-Fi service;
- A similar strategy will be adopted in parts of Africa and the Middle East;
- Most parts of the United States and Latin America say,These valuable 6GHz spectrum resources will not be used for 5G,Instead, it is left to Wi-Fi and other unauthorized technologies。
6GHz spectrum can not only help mobile operators enhance universal coverage of network connections,Break the digital divide;It will also satisfy smart cities、High-speed transmission and large capacity requirements for smart transportation and smart factories。Next ten years,5G networks are expected to require mid-frequency spectrum above 2GHz to fully unlock their potential。
GSMA Chief Policy Officer John Giusti said:“5G will drive global GDP to achieve US$2.2 trillion growth。but,If there is no adequate 6GHz licensed spectrum for 5G technology,The possibility of achieving this growth will be significantly reduced。A clear and clear spectrum strategy is crucial,This is the key to ensuring that critical infrastructure receives large-scale investment in long-term。”
The next World Radio Communication Conference(WRC)Will be held in 2023,This will be a valuable opportunity for governments to coordinate 6GHz spectrum strategies and discuss the development of the global telecommunications ecosystem。
5G has been launched on a large scale globally,And accelerating the digital transformation of thousands of industries,A new wave of innovation,Benefits billions of people around the world,At the same time, the technology will also help reduce carbon emissions through universal network connections,This is also crucial for countries to achieve environmental and climate goals。but,5G benefits all users around the world,It is also necessary to use 6GHz authorized spectrum to increase network capacity。to this end,GSMA calls on countries:
- Licensing at least the spectrum in the 6425-7125MHz range to 5G technology;
- Ensure the coexistence protection of data return services in the current frequency band;
- Based on current spectrum usage and fiber optic conditions in each country,Use the 6GHz full band or the first half as authorized spectrum。
GSMA United Ericsson、Huawei、Nokia and ZTE jointly issued a statement on the same day,Further elaborate on the importance of the 6GHz frequency band to the future development of 5G,Click here to viewComplete statement。
